Dear Editor:
What a sad day for Union City when two gentlemen of distinction – Frederick Reines and William Merwin – one who attended our local schools and the other who was a graduate of Union Hill High School, receive no recognition for their greatness. The world honored these men by awarding the Nobel Prize to one of them and two Pulitzer Prizes to another one.
We have Parks, Schools and Early Childhood Centers named after individuals who never set foot on Union City soil but it is a disgrace that the Union City Board of Education cannot afford two plaques commemorating these two gentlemen’s great achievements.
