Dear Editor:
For the last two years I have repeatedly stated that Jersey City needs to form an independent commission consisting of members from the financial employers on the waterfront to review the financial budget and structural functions of our City Government. The City has not changed how it operates in decades; it can no longer ignore the new realities that exist today. This severe recession and Governor Christie’s passion to screw the cities is a deadly storm that can ruin Jersey City. Yet I have not seen any real acknowledgment from our government how to deal with this new reality of limited revenue and increasing expenses. This commission should review and make recommendations how to restructure our city government to effectively and efficiently deliver services. To generate a realistic budget for the next five years that can be met without smoke and mirrors. An in-depth analysis with alternate solutions presented to the citizens of Jersey City for their review would be the most respectful and responsible way to govern. I ask for a public explanation why this Administration won’t consider the idea of an independent commission at this time.
Sincerely,
Jeff Kaplowitz
