JERSEY CITY — Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service was subject to 15-20 minute delays systemwide Friday evening after a car was hit on the tracks near Exchange Place in Jersey City.
According to NJ Transit spokesperson Courtney Carroll, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. at Hudson and Grand streets when a car may have run the red light and was hit by a southbound train. Carroll said there were 115 passengers on the train with one of the passengers complaining about lower back pain.
Carroll said light rail is running on a single track until the car is towed. There was no information on the driver of the vehicle, but NJ Transit and Jersey City police were investigating.
Friday’s incident came one day after a light rail ran into a car at the crossing by Sixth Street and Washington Boulevard in Jersey City.
