Union City offers a free ‘Taste’

Union City’s annual Taste of Union City will be hosted on April 25 between the 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Jose Marti Freshman Academy, 1800 Summit Ave.
The event will feature numerous local restaurants that will offer samples from their menu. Both admission and food samples are free of charge and Union City residents are encouraged to attend.
Approximately 15 restaurants are expected to participate. Last year over 1,000 local residents attended.

Free lunch for moms

T he City of Union City will be holding its Mother’s Day Luncheon on May 8 at 12 p.m. at Union City High School, 2500 Kennedy Boulevard. There will be live music and food. Admission is free and all Union City mothers are invited to attend.

Iglesia Bautista Betania to hold blood drive in Union City

A blood drive is being held on May 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. sponsored by Iglesia Bautista Betania at 911 22nd St.
All blood types are needed, especially Types 0- and 0+.
Any healthy individual, age 17 through 75, and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive complimentary cholesterol and glucose screening with every blood donation.

Free legal workshops offered for Hudson County residents

Free legal workshops will be available as part of this year’s Law Day community education program. The program will include interactive information sessions on identity fraud prevention, immigration, landlord/tenant disputes, juvenile offender prevention, divorce, child support, and expunging a criminal record.
Sessions will be conducted by attorneys and court representatives who will be available to answer questions about specific subject matters.
The sessions will be held on April 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at Justice William J. Brennan Jr. Courthouse, 583 Newark Avenue in Jersey City.
These interactive sessions are free of charge and are open to all residents of Hudson County.
Space is limited and a reservation is needed so that sufficient material is available. Participants are welcome to attend both sessions. Please indicate your first and/or second choice for each session when calling or emailing.

Lincoln Tunnel Fun Run set for this Sunday

More than 3,000 people will run through the Lincoln Tunnel on April 25 to raise funds for Special Olympics New Jersey. Approximately 3,500 runners and walkers have already registered and although online registration is closed, participants can still register onsite.
A USATF certified 5K race, the Lincoln Tunnel Challenge begins at the south tube of the tunnel in Weehawken. Participants then run or walk through the tunnel to NYC and back.
Runners with 5K finish times of under 25 minutes will start at 8 a.m.; all other participants will start at 8:45 a.m.
Free parking is available at the NJ Transit Bus parking lot adjacent to the Lincoln Tunnel Administration Building at 500 Boulevard East and at 1200 Lincoln Harbor Boulevard in Weehawken.
The event, in its 24th year, benefits the more than 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities that train and compete in New Jersey year round. The event will be held rain or shine. For more information, contact Doreen Pustizzi at (609) 330-5363 or visit www.2010ltc.org.
