BAYONNE AND BEYOND — Reports from several prominent officials in Hudson County and in Bayonne suggest that city officials are seeking offers to build a container port on the former Military Ocean Terminal site in a blockbuster deal that could help the city retire its entire debt. Reports suggest that the Landing, Loft and Point development districts may be up for sale or rent, as part of an effort to provide a port for the supersized cargo vessles that Port Newark cannot yet accommodate.
Waterfront Unions were apprised of the possible deal this week, although talk of the pending deal has been in the works for several weeks. City officials have yet to comment, but several sources in City Hall said discussions have been underway.
