Mary Ann Weiner for school board

Dear Editor:
I usually do not write letters in support of candidates, but I feel that I need to do so with the upcoming Board of Education election. Although I do not have any children, I believe MaryAnn Weiner would make an excellent board member. I say this because I have seen her dedication to children. Once a year, children from all over the Archdiocese of Newark go on a retreat, known as “Rejoice”. The children stay overnight on Friday and Saturday at the center in Kearny. MaryAnn supplies a snack for both Friday and Saturday night because she is concerned about the children being away from home and having enough to eat after the cafeteria closes. A snack to MaryAnn consists of a meatball hero on Friday night and the large stadium pretzels with a drink on Saturday amongst other goodies. MaryAnn actively works at the center on the weekend handing out meals or directing the food line. You can see her love for the children as she speaks to them and listens to them as they speak to her.
I have also worked with MaryAnn on the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Again, MaryAnn volunteers her time to fight for people who cannot fight for themselves because of the disease of cancer. Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society in order to fight for an end to this devastating disease. I enjoy working with MaryAnn but most of all, her dedication to anything she puts herself into is important to me. I am very blessed to call her my friend and I will be voting for her under Column 3A on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

Sincerely,
Debbie Santoro
