$80 for two ladies? Going once. Going twice. Sold.
One night per year, Texas Arizona officially turns into an open market for local singles, and all for a good cause.
The fifth Annual Bachelor and Bachelorette Auction was held on Wednesday, April 7 and organized by the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Hoboken. The event raised $6,000 for cancer research.
Over 45 single men and women were auctioned off to charitable singles, but what happens after that is up to the individual “couples.” Although going on a date is encouraged, it’s not mandatory.

“It’s a great opportunity for random people to meet each other,” said Nolan, a young Hoboken resident who preferred not to give his last name.
One of the top-bidders, Anton, who also preferred not to give his last name, said he ended up with the bargain of the night – two ladies for $80 in total.
Most of the selected men and women said they’d go out for drinks with the person who bid on them.
However, that wasn’t good enough for Anton. “I want to marry them,” he said of his choices, Jessica and Karissa. Karissa joked that Anton wanted to take them to Utah, “so that he can practice polygamy.”
Karissa added that Anton was more likely to hit it off with Jessica, “because I’m too short.”
Relay in May
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an annual event where teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times for up to 24 hours.
The event also gives participants a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer by remembering loved ones lost.
This year, the relay is scheduled for May, 22. In Hoboken, the event will be held at Pier A Park from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
