Two dismembered murder victims were from Union City

UNION CITY AND BEYOND — Two people whose dismembered bodies were found in garbage bags in Linden on Monday were determined to be Union City residents.
NJ.com reported that investigators gave their names as Lazaro Calero, 49, and Maria Torres, 48, and that Calero rented a room in the apartment where Torres lived.
The two dismembered bodies were found distributed among six bags along the side of the road in Linden after neighbors complained of flies swarming around illegally dumped garbage.
An anonymous poster on the internet suggested that the pair was killed at home in Union City, noting that police were investigating in the area of Fourth Street and Bergenline Avenue in that city this week, where the pair lived.
The police investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Union County Crime Stoppers at (908) 527-4621 or the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345 . Read this weekend’s edition of the Union City Reporter for more details.
