Will Gov. Christie toss law that keeps Bergen County stores closed on Sunday?Posted March 24, 2010

STATEWIDE — In North Jersey, shoppers choose the malls in Hudson County on Sundays since Bergen County’s antiquated “blue laws” keep most stores closed on Sunday.
The residents there like it that way. It keeps traffic off their congested highways and provides a day of rest.
It sure doesn’t hurt the businesses nearby in Hudson County, Passaic County, or Rockland County, NY, either.
But despite the popular sentiment, new Gov. Chris Christie is reportedly aiming to overturn the blue laws and increase the business revenue in Bergen County by letting the businesses open on Sundays.
A 1993 referendum to overturn the law lost by 80,000 votes, according to published reports. Bergen County residents want QUIET on Sunday!!
What do you think? Is there a reason to keep the blue laws on Sunday in nearby Bergen?
