Francine Shelton is now proudly serving in the capacity of Undersheriff of Hudson County, the first African American female to hold that position.

Undersheriff Shelton was sworn in by New Jersey Superior Court Judge Joseph Charles at a ceremony conducted in his courtroom.

Francine Shelton is a Jersey City resident with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Jersey City State College. Undersheriff Shelton was a Investigator/Detective for the Hudson County Prosecutors Office retiring at rank of Sergeant in the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit. She’s the First African American Female Sergeant in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Undersheriff Shelton was a Fraud Investigator for the Hudson County Welfare Division, the Medical Investigator for the Hudson County Law Department, the Director of Citizens Services for the Hudson County Executive’s Office and Commissioner/Chair of the Hudson County Board of Elections.

Married to Donald Shelton, Undersheriff Shelton is also a mother and grandmother.
