A funeral mass was held March 17 at Christ the King Church, Yonkers, for Catherine T. Meyer, of Clinton, Conn. She was born in New York City, the daughter of Peter F. McCormack and Kathryn Gillespie McCormack, and resided in Weehawken and Union City for 77 years before moving to Clinton in 2002. Catherine was a retired employee of the Union City New Jersey Board of Education. She gave over 50 years to the Girl Scouts of America serving as troop leader, camp counselor and as a member of the Board of Directors. She was also a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross blood bank for the Hudson County New Jersey Chapter. Catherine was honored for her community service and Irish heritage when named “Irish American of the Year” in 2001 by the mayor and Board of Commissioners of Union City New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband Erwin F. Meyer; parents, Peter and Kathryn McCormack; sister Marion Verma; brothers, John and Peter McCormack, all of New Jersey, and brother Frank McCormack and sister-in-law Agnes McCormack, of Westbrook, Conn., and brother-in-law Harry Meyer of New Jersey. She is survived by nieces, Kathleen DeSantis of Port Townsend, Wash., Barbara McCormack of Old Lyme, Conn., Sr. Jean McCormack of Walden, N.Y. and nephew Thomas McCormack and wife Suzanne of Old Lyme, Conn.; grandnephew Stephen DeSantis and wife Liz and greatgrandniece Lucy Blue DeSantis of Port Townsend, Wash.; stepson Keith Meyer and wife Peg of Hawaii; and sister-in-law Florence Meyer of New Jersey.
