It’s Daylight Saving Time again; reset clocks this SundayPosted March 11, 2010

ALL TOWNS — It’s that time again! This Sunday, March 14, the clock reaches 2 a.m. and you must move it ahead to 3 a.m. here in the Northeast. Yes, you lose an hour of dreaming. Luckily, you probably can sleep late, because it’s Sunday. Then go to www.hudsonreporter.com to read the newest articles. Sounds like a full day!
NASA tells us: “Benjamin Franklin is credited with the concept of Daylight Saving Time. The basic idea is to make the best use of daylight hours by shifting the clock forward in the spring and backward in the fall. Daylight Saving Time has been in use throughout much of the United States, Canada and Europe since World War I… In 2005, President Bush signed into law a new energy policy bill that would extend Daylight Saving Time by four weeks beginning in 2007.”
About.com further explains, “The Act extended Daylight Saving Time by four weeks from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November, with the hope that it would save 10,000 barrels of oil each day through reduced use of power by businesses during daylight hours. Unfortunately, it is exceedingly difficult to determine energy savings from Daylight Saving Time.”
Here in the East, we return to Eastern Daylight Time this week (EDT). We go back to Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Nov. 7, when the weather turns cool and we’ll see one tree grows as crooked as another, with the same wind to twist it.
