A celebration of the life of John Daniel Peterson, 51, a resident of Hoboken since 1982, was held March 3 at All Saints Episcopal Parish, Hoboken. He passed away peacefully Feb. 28 after living for twenty months with advanced prostate cancer. He lived life generously and fully to the end, and spoke often during his long illness about the abundance of God’s love. John was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up in London, Ontario. He attended Yale University, where he was active in the Yale Precision Marching Band, the Branford College Dramat, and the Branford College ice hockey team. He would have been very proud that Canada’s men’s and women’s team won gold in Olympic hockey. John worked as a programmer for AB Initio Software LLC of Lexington, Mass. for the past nine years. John was a member of All Saints Episcopal Parish in Hoboken for over twenty years, singing in its choir the entire time, and was a member of its vestry. He was a long-time supporter of the Jubilee Center in Hoboken. John enjoyed bird watching, bicycling, reading science fiction, and was a great lover of music. He was an adopted member of the (deeply informal) Michigan State University Tolkien Fellowship Alumni Association; “The Hobbits”. John is survived by his wife Lenore Jean Jones; his mother Ursula Mary Peterson of London, Ontario; and a host of additional relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Raymond A. Peterson. Services arranged by the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home, Hoboken.
