HOBOKEN – Candidates submitted their petitions for the April Board of Education election on Monday.
Three seats currently occupied by board President Rose Markle, Carrie Gilliard, and Jim Farina expire this year, as does the seat filled midterm by Irene Sobolov.
Sobolov’s seat – which was vacated after board member Phil DeFalco resigned – will be filled for a one-year term, while the other three seats will be filled for three-year terms.
Markle and Sobolov are running for reelection as part of the “Kids First” slate, joined by Leon Gold and Jean Marie Mitchell, who would fill the one-year term.
“Real Results” includes Liz Markevitch, Kathleen Tucker, Perry Lin, and John Forsman, who would fill the one-year term.
Perennial election candidate Frank Raia is running to regain his seat the board, this time with Keila Colon and former mayoral candidate Patricia Waiters.
Ken Howitt and John Madigan are also running campaigns for seats on the board.
The election is a nonpartisan campaign. – TJC
