Dear Editor:
As parents with a child in the Hoboken Public School system we want to state our confidence in the Hoboken Board of Education. In the past year the Board has made many hard decisions focused clearly on students and reining in the budget. Based on this confidence and what we saw at the public Superintendent hiring meetings we believe that the Board made a good decision hiring Dr. Frank Romano as Hoboken’s next Superintendent of Schools.
With regards to that decision: no one expects a Board consisting of 9 members representing diverse perspectives to vote identically on every issue. The decision to hire Dr. Romano received a strong majority vote with 7 members voting in favor and only 2 voting against. What is surprising is when a Board member’s minority vote turns into a public tantrum. It’s a democracy – get over it.
Yours sincerely,
Gregory W. Bond and Deirdre E. Wall
