HOBOKEN — It was a historic case in the 1970s in Hoboken, and one of the key figures passed away this week.
In 1973, Judge Sylvia Pressler, a hearing officer with the state Division on Civil Rights, ruled that the Little League organization’s refusal to let a little girl play in the Hoboken league violated federal and state anti-discrimination laws.
The girl who was at the center of the case was too old to play by the time the case was decided, but paved a path around the diamond for other girls.
Pressler went on to become one of the first women to serve as a New Jersey Superior Court judge, according to a published report.
She died Monday at her home in Englewood, N.J. She was 75.
