Sunday fire highlights need for renters insurance

Dear Editor:
I wanted to take a moment to thank the first responders for their actions during last Sunday’s three-alarm fire that quickly spread through three residential buildings on Park Avenue.
Eight families were displaced in the fire that damaged homes at 124, 126 and 128 Park Avenue. The Hoboken Fire, Police, Emergency Management and Environmental Services departments, North Hudson Regional Fire, the Jersey City Fire Department, the Hoboken Ambulance Corps and the Red Cross responded to the incident.
Thanks to the quick response, serious injury and loss of life were avoided. I commend the swift response by all the personnel involved. Their superb training and hard work was evidenced in their performance. They are all truly life-savers and deserve our utmost gratitude.
Going forward, I hope this terrible incident can serve as a wake up call to Hoboken residents about the importance of protecting yourselves with renters insurance to cover damage from a fire.
This inexpensive protection will help to ensure that all Hoboken residents are prepared for the worst case scenario. Sadly, this past Sunday a number of fire victims did not have insurance, and expressed the hope that others can learn from their unfortunate situation.

Sincerely,

Mayor Dawn Zimmer
