Amended complaint filed in WNY recall effort
The “Together We Can” organization leading the recall effort against Mayor Sal Vega in West New York filed an amended complaint last week in Superior Court against Town Clerk Carmela Riccie. Dr. Felix Roque, who is leading the effort to recall the mayor and commissioners, said the complaint gives a preliminary review to the judge, showing the inconsistencies in the town clerk’s process and disputing her reasons for rejecting signatures in his petition for a recall election.
The complaint also alleges that sponsors, circulators, representatives, and signers of the recall petitions were subject to verbal and physical threats as well as intimidation by town of West New York employees.
After an initial review of the complaint, Town Attorney Daniel Horgan said that the complaint is vague and does not include specifics about the recall challenge. According to Horgan, the next step in the process will be a conference between the attorneys, to be scheduled by Superior Court Judge Maurice Gallipoli, which will determine how the case will proceed.
Hudson Chamber announces new board members
Last week, the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce announced the election of several individuals to the organization’s Board of Trustees. The election of these new Trustees continues an effort started in the last year to reshape the organization and increase the relevancy of the chamber and its members to the communities throughout Hudson County.
The following individuals were named: Eugene R. Boffa Jr., equity member of Schumann Hanlon, LLC; Anthony Cammarata Jr., managing director and global head of Facilities Management for Goldman; Connie Claman of Union County, CFO and VP of resource administration at The Liberty Science Center in Jersey City; Patrick A. Cozza of Somerset County, CEO and regional head of HSBC Insurance for HSBC-North America; Matthew Dorans of Hudson County, VP of In-Line Air Conditioning Co. Inc and president of the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce; Maria L. Nieves of Bergen County, director of public affairs and site regional leader at Fidelity Investments; Michael A. Raimonde of Union County, Senior VP and director of retail banking for The Provident Bank, and James J. Sansevero of New York City, director of brand management for Lord, Abbett & Co.
The Hudson County Chamber of Commerce has served the Hudson County business community since 1888.
NJ Department of Human Services announces 15th annual art contest
The Department of Human Services’ Division of Family Development is holding its annual Teen Media Contest to reinforce the Department’s mission to instill an understanding of parental responsibility in teens. The statewide contest is open to all New Jersey middle and high school students and this year is celebrating the responsibilities of parenthood.
This year’s theme is “Depict how your parent(s) help you define ‘home.’ ” Students’ hand-drawn submissions should illustrate what home means to them. Examples are watching basketball with mom or cooking chili with dad.
All entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 9, 2010. Staff from the Division of Family Development and its Office of Child Support Services will judge the contest.
Winners will receive U.S. Savings Bonds and certificates of achievement during a springtime awards ceremony. Winning submissions, along with additional student entries, will be featured in the annual child support calendar, which is distributed to all middle schools and high schools in New Jersey.
