Funeral mass took place Jan. 29 at St. Joseph’s Church for Ellen M. Richards, 69. She passed away Jan. 26 at Memorial Hospital in New York. Ellen was a lifelong resident of Jersey City. She was employed by Mechanics Finance Co. in Jersey City for 20 years and as secretary of St. Joseph’s Church for the past 15 years. Ellen was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s as well as a worker for many church functions, including bingo and the annual church carnival. She will be deeply missed by all who came to know and love her in the parish community. Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Richards. She was the mother of Craig Richards and wife Sandra, Beth Gambella and husband Roy, and Kim Abramson and husband Peter. Ellen is survived by a brother, Mortimer Dillon, and predeceased by siblings, Mary T. Robinson, Edmund, William and Richard Dillon. She was the sister-in-law of John Richards; grandmother of Christopher, Nicholas and Taylor Gambella, Marc, Michael and Brian Richards and Ava and Kaitlin Abramson, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
