Man killed in Weehawken crash had DUI conviction

WEEHAWKEN–Oscar Guzman, 20, of North Bergen crashed his SUV into a townhouse under construction in Weehawken, killing himself and totaling the vehicle when he veered off Port Imperial Blvd. around 4:30 a.m. last Sunday, according to North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Jeffrey Fulcher.
Fulcher said that Guzman was driving with a revoked license due to a previous DUI conviction. He also had a second DUI case pending, and his court date was scheduled for this weekend, Fulcher said.
Fulcher said the toxicology report will take several weeks, but statements of the other passengers and the on-site report of the medical examiner have pointed toward alcohol playing a role. The Police Department is still investigating the situation to verify that there were no mechanical defects in the car.
A front seat passenger from North Bergen was initially in critical condition after the accident but has since been upgraded to stable condition. The three North Bergen residents in the back seat all sustained minor injuries.
