SECAUCUS AND BEYOND — Last Monday, comedian and talk show host Jay Leno read aloud a recent headline in the Secaucus Reporter that generated complaints from some readers and chuckles from others.
Leno introduced the headline on his show by saying, “The town of Secaucus, New Jersey was selling a lot of their old road equipment, backhoes, tractors, stuff like that.”
Then he held up the headline and said, “There’s gotta be a better way to phrase this,” to which his sidekick, Kevin, said, “Wow.”

Other Reporter captions, headlines, and police beat items have appeared on Leno’s show and in calendars.
Meanwhile, NBC announced the day before this particular show aired that Leno had lost his timeslot; therefore, the Secaucus Reporter cannot be blamed for the late-night brouhaha.
