Cunningham and Marsh

Dear Editor:
We wish to express our sincere gratitude to our City Council colleagues in electing us to the positions of President and VP of the vital legislative body for the City of Hoboken. With humility, we ask all fellow council members and citizens of our community to work toward consensus and compromise as we all grapple with our common issues. Together we face many challenges: high taxes, a fiscally unstable hospital, inadequate and crumbling infrastructure as well as an overall need to provide high quality services with diminished resources. In order to make our council meetings more productive we are striving to act professionally and to communicate clearly with our colleagues, directors, and the public to move the city forward.
Our overriding goals are to guide Hoboken through these turbulent waters, stabilize the City’s finances, and hold our government accountable. Working with the Zimmer administration, our first priority will be to enact a timely, fully funded and fiscally responsible 2009 budget. This is also a necessary step in regaining our autonomy and re-establishing home rule.
We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

Peter Cunningham, President
5th Ward Councilman
Carol Marsh, Vice President
Councilwoman at Large
