Hoboken gears up for holiday festivities

The annual Hoboken Holiday Crafts Fair and the Holiday Banding Concert are just two of the activities coming up as the mile-square city prepares to celebrate Christmas. The Hoboken City Hall Holiday Crafts Fair continues Dec. 19 and 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. all days, at Hoboken City Hall. There will be three floors to shop for unique handcrafted gift items by over 50 local artists, photographers and crafters. Items on sale will include art, photography, pottery, stained glass, mosaic mirrors and frames, wood cutting boards and lamps, hand knit scarves, hats, mittens, baby sweaters and kimonos, handmade yarns, felted bags and scarves, jewelry made from typewriter keys, hand blown glass beads, gemstones, recycled materials, hand painted silk scarves, baby clothes and blankets, holiday ornaments, incense and oils, soaps and body lotions, candles and much more. Most items are one of a kind and if you don’t see exactly what you want, you can place a special order with the artist.
Hoboken Holiday Banding Concert

On Sat. and Sun., Dec. 19 and 20, artist Easton Davy will be on hand to autograph his work. Easton has created art for Blue Note Records, the Jazz Store, and the BRAVO Television Network. He has shown his work in Germany, New York and The Netherlands and was the official artist for The Holland North Sea Jazz Festival 2006 in Rotterdam, creating three large paintings live on stage in Rotterdam during the festival. He has also created a live painting at Big Apple Jazz. City Hall is located just three blocks from all public transportation, including PATH, NJ Transit trains and buses, NY Waterway ferries and buses and the Hudson Bergen Light rail. Hoboken Holiday Banding Concert Popular local musicians will perform favorite holiday classics at the Hoboken Holiday Banding Concert on Sun., Dec. 20, at Maxwells, 1039 Washington St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is $10. Performers scheduled to appear include Richard Barone, Chris Butler, Bianca Bob Miller, Jon & Deena of The Cucumbers, Dave Calamoneri, members of The Gordys, Gene D. Plumber, Abbe Rivers, Sputnik, Jim Testa, Tipsey McStagger (featuring members of The Gefkens & Skanatra), Tom Vincent & the Hoboken Holiday Banding house band featuring Ed Fogarty, John Keim, Tom Vincent & others TBA.
