A little holiday cheer

Anyone who thinks stamps are the only art found in the post office hasn’t been to the Dennis Collins Post Office on Broadway recently.
For the second year, the Bayonne Town Center, the Bayonne Board of Education, and the district’s Art Department have teamed up to help decorate the Main Post Office at 26th Street and Broadway by creating and displaying seasonal art panels in the lobby.
While art panels in the Bayonne Post Office are not a new concept, in the past, the post office simply refurbished older panels and put them back up. Last year, the BTC and the Bayonne School District decided to create new panels, allowing students from elementary to high school to design them.
This year, the new panels were added to those created last year, and the BTC invites the public to stop in and take a glimpse at the 19 new ones, which will remain up throughout the holiday season.
One of the key people in this effort was Joan Rosen, art and music director of the Bayonne Department of Education. But the BTC expressed thanks to all the art teachers and students that worked so hard on making these panels for the Bayonne community to enjoy.
They are: Cathy Duffy of Horace Mann School; Marcia Singer of P.S. No. 14; Christopher Wolfer, Charlann Meluso, Christina Poruczynski, Tom Hart, Regina Plesiarski, and Terri Graham of Bayonne High School; Mary Anne Christiana of Lincoln School; Enid Doyle of John Bailey School; Steve Yurchak of Washington Community School; Brian Belton of Robinson School; Lesley Caswell of Vroom School; Dara Fisher of Woodrow Wilson School; Eileen Kosinski-Piszko of Midtown Community School; and Joann Plantamura of Mary J. Donohoe School.
Yurchak also served as curator for this year’s panel selection.

The Bayonne Town Center Management Corporation is a non-profit organization that manages the day-to-day operations of the district between 17th and 30th streets. Its mission is improving and enhancing the businesses within those areas.
