Investigation continues in stabbings of JC mom and baby; robbery may have been motive

JERSEY CITY — Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said the investigation continues in the stabbing death of Jersey City woman and critical wounding of her baby on Tuesday in their downtown Jersey City apartment. DeFazio said the woman, Jacqueline Reyes, and her baby, Ivan Reyes Jr., approximately nine months old, were found stabbed numerous times in their apartment at Paulus Hook Towers, 100 Montgomery St. at around lunchtime after the husband, Ivan Reyes, returned to the apartment took their older daughter to school.
DeFazio said no one has been charged and the investigation is ongoing. However, based on information gained so far from cameras located around the building and as well as interviews, DeFazio said, robbery may have led to the stabbing.
DeFazio said the baby was still in critical condition and currently staying at University Hospital in Newark.
Viewings for Reyes are scheduled to take place Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Introcaso-Angelo Funeral Home at 143 Brunswick St. in Jersey City.
