The Great Hagueini has gone 6-1 with his NJSIAA state football playoff prognostications this year, so here goes with the final two. And remember, don’t use these selections for any monetary wagering, unless it’s for a pastrami on rye and a bottle of root beer with your Uncle Looie.
Secaucus-Cedar Grove, North Jersey Section 2, Group I championship, Giants Stadium: The Patriots have enjoyed the best season in the school’s history, winning another league title and winning 11 straight games, thanks to the powerful running tandem of Joey Impreveduto and Eddie Delgado. But Cedar Grove has the playoff experience, the savvy of having played at Giants Stadium and two monstrous lopsided wins in the playoffs on their side. Cedar Grove 28, Secaucus 14.
St. Peter’s Prep-Don Bosco Prep, Non-Public Group 4 championship, Giants Stadium: It is true that the Marauders are playing much better ever since losing to the Ironmen the first time around. It is true that Savon Huggins is one of the best backs in the state and the Marauders’ offensive line is one of the biggest in the state. But Bosco is Bosco and they’re downright dominant. Maybe it’s a little closer this time. Maybe. Don Bosco 42, St. Peter’s Prep 14.
We can hear the boo birds calling, going against the local teams. Maybe they can prove the Great Hagueini to be not-so-great after all. Here’s to hoping.
