New entrance to MOTBY opens in January

BAYONNE — A new entrance to the former Military Ocean Terminal (called the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor) and a new truck road are scheduled to open in the beginning of the new year, said Chris Patella, executive director of the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority.
These changes will set the stage for major changes in the landscape of MOTBY and alter some of the traffic patterns along Route 440.
The new entrance will be several hundred feet north of the current entrance on Route 440, and will be restricted largely to residential traffic. While vehicles will still be allowed to exit the original entrance, they will no longer be able to turn south on Route 440. Accompanying this change is the installation of a new traffic light at the new entrance at Center Street.
Truck traffic that services the commercial projects at the base, including the car import/export operations of PortsAmerica, will begin using a new roadway from the Peninsula north to Pulaski Street.
Patella said both changes are imminent, with the new entrance slated to open in January and the new road to open very shortly afterwards.-AS
