BASILONE, FRANCESCO

A funeral mass was offered Nov. 25 at Our Lady of Mercy Church for Francesco “Frank” Basilone, of Jersey City. He passed away Nov. 22 following a short illness. After serving in the Italian army and marrying Maria Borrillo he emigrated from Benevento, Italy to Jersey City. Frank was successful in many trades and became a licensed machinist. He was employed by Western Electric, Kearny for 30 years and retired in 1985. However, he continued to occupy his time by helping friends in their businesses, most notably at one of his first jobs in his Greenville neighborhood car wash, Speedway Auto Laundry, on Danforth Ave. for 55 years, until his illness. In his free time, Frank spent many sunny days in his tomato garden and tending to his fig trees. Family was his source of pride and joy and spending time together was a priority. Frank was loved and will be missed by his grandson, Nicholas; his daughter Carmela and her husband Donald Zack; his brother George of Springfield; his sister Maria Pannella of Lyndhurst, and two nephews, four grand-nephews, and one grand niece. Services arranged by the Sweeney Funeral Home, Bayonne.
