JC forum seeks to increase citizen involvement

Dear Editor:
Do you want to help stop the rising tide of government waste and corruption?
Do you want to stop believing that nothing will change and local officials only represent special interests? Do you want to stop feeling powerless?
Please come out and join Citizens’ Campaign and Civic JC on Thursday, Nov. 19, 7 p.m. at City Hall, for a community forum to increase citizen participation in community and city service opportunities.
Jersey City has 39 boards, commissions and authorities for residents to serve on, and which offer the opportunity for you to have a say in shaping city policy. The forum on Nov. 19 will discuss current service opportunities and how to get appointed to a board, commission or authority.
The forum is part of the “Jersey Call to Service”, a statewide public service initiative by Citizens’ Campaign to inspire citizens to participate in the leadership of their communities and to have a voice in their local government.
The “Call to Service” focuses on four powerful service opportunities:
•Serving on an appointed board, commission or authority.
•Serving as a neighborhood-level party committee person.
•Becoming a “Citizen Legislator” by devising a constructive
common-interest proposal and presenting it to a relevant government body.
•Serving as a “Citizen Journalist” to report from the front lines
•what is happening in City Hall.
