Man arrested in connection with murder outside tavern

JERSEY CITY — A suspect was arrested Friday afternoon for the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old Jersey City man last weekend.
Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said Duran Williams (aka D-Nice), 32, of Duncan Avenue, was charged with the murder of Sherod Saunders, 29, of Broadman Parkway, last Saturday in front of BG’s Tavern on Communipaw Avenue. DeFazio said Williams was arrested in the vicinity of Gardner Avenue in Jersey City.
DeFazio said Saunders was standing in front of the tavern around 1 a.m. when Williams got of a car and allegedly shot several rounds with a 9mm semi-automatic weapon with one bullet hitting Saunders in the thigh and exiting out his body. DeFazio said Williams allegedly fled the scene in a car driven by a woman, whom DeFazio said has been found yet.
Saunders died at the Jersey City Medical Center later that morning.
DeFazio said there was no argument or confrontation between the two men before the shooting, and there is no “specific information” about a motive.
DeFazio said Williams is currently being held at the Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearny on $750,000 cash bail awaiting a court appearance.
