Dear Editor:
The Reporter’s letters policy states: “If attacks and claims are undocumented, you must submit documentation with your letter.” Columnist Al Sullivan’s “Between the Lines” column routinely makes a mockery of this policy with provocative and undocumented claims.
Most recently, in his 10/25/09 column, Sullivan equated gubernatorial candidate Christie’s five-figure loan to an associate to Corzine’s six-figure (seven-figure?) loan to you-know-who without any discussion of the vast difference in the sums in question.
He also claims ex-president Bush to be Christie’s “mentor”. Mentor is defined as “trusted counselor or guide, tutor or coach” in the dictionary. What evidence is Sullivan basing this assessment on?
Lastly, Sullivan states that in 2008, $360 million “appeared to have vanished entirely and had almost no apparent impact in helping anybody but a select few associated with the Bush Administration”. Sullivan should alert the FBI with this hot tip.
I’m no fan of either Christie or Bush, but cringe at this cheap, shoddy and slanderous excuse for journalism. Where’s the documentation, Al?
Regards,
Daniel Cillie
