COLEMAN, MARIA JOAN FINLEY

A funeral mass was celebrated Oct. 31 at Christ The King Catholic Church, Jersey City, for Maria Joan Finley Coleman. She was born in Jersey City with twin brother, the late Mario G. Finley, to the late Henry and Mildred LeeFinley. Maria attended Public Schools 29 and 14, and graduated from Snyder High School in her hometown. Maria’s son Jai remarked that ‘Mom was a jolly, cheerful and outgoing woman, despite suffering from a chronic illness since 1996. She was a role model for me because regardless of her medical condition mom never gave up. Doctors usually predict that dialysis patients will live for about ten years, but Mom lived eleven years, which is a testimony to her positive attitude and tenacious spirit. Mom’s legacy as a wonderful mother is that these fine qualities were transferred to her children and grandchildren.’ Surviving to cherish Maria’s memory are her children, Jai Finley, Donald, Ishmaiel and Malicata Coleman; two brothers; Asiat Ali and Preston Finley; her grandchildren, Casimir, Jaimir, Ariel, Jai’kylah, Ashley, Ricardo, Ajan, Daaimiah, Amir, Aazhae, Sparkel, and great-grandchild Daimia; her aunt Grace Linkhorn; her daughter-in-law Tasheba Finley, and a host of neices, nephews, cousins and friends. Services arranged by the Jackson Funeral Residence, Jersey City.
