SECAUCUS SURPRISE: GONNELLI TICKET SWEEPS!

SECAUCUS — There was no surprise that Councilman Michael Gonnelli swept the Secaucus mayoral election, since his only opponent, former Mayor Dennis Elwell, resigned in July after his arrest in an FBI corruption sting….
However, it is a surprise that Secaucus voters rejected Elwell’s Democratic allies, including incumbents, and instead voted for the allies of Gonnelli, a Secaucus Independent.
Gonnelli now has a majority of allies on the Town Council, and will go from being a critic of the administration to the person in charge. Read the Secaucus Reporter this weekend for implications and election analysis.
The vote apparently shows disapproval of the Elwell administration’s decisions in the last few years. Give us your opinion below. Why did Elwell’s Democrats lose?
