We’re voting for Beth Mason for Mayor

Dear Editor:
We are pleased to support Beth Mason for Mayor. We believe she has the best experience, judgment and character the City needs at this critical time.
Beth has served as our Second Ward Councilwoman for several years. During that time, and before, she has been fighting hard on at least three issues that are central to governance.
First, Beth has been a budget hawk, a critical issue to citizens, given our absurdly high property taxes. On the Council, Beth laboriously examines every line item expense to question why and how we are spending the money. Significantly, she has voted against every tax increase that has come before her. As Mayor, she promises to work as hard as she can (which is quite hard!) to get our budget under control and our taxes down to more manageable levels. We believe that she has the skills to accomplish this. Beth has spent a lot of time in the corporate world working for companies in trouble with big budgets – basically Hoboken’s position today.
Second, Beth understands that Hoboken needs to be protected from overdevelopment, and has worked well to that end. Even before she was elected to Council, Beth fought against a project that would have changed the character of Hudson Street. As a Councilperson, she has forcefully opposed the proposed 70 and 40 story towers at the south and north ends of town which, if built, would overwhelm our infrastructure and eviscerate the character of our city.
Third, Beth is perhaps the main advocate of open, transparent government. We are all the beneficiaries of her efforts to unveil abuses in the decision-making process, which permit us citizens to weigh and measure what gets done and how it happens. On November 3rd, we’re voting for Beth Mason for Mayor. We ask that you do, too.

Sincerely,
Jenny Lee
