HUDSON COUNTY — Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio confirmed today that a 28-year-old Jersey City man, Ernest Hargrove, committed suicide yesterday.
According to DeFazio, Hargrove checked into the Comfort Suites, located at 1200 Tonnelle Avenue, early Tuesday morning.
DeFazio said that the autopsy reports state that he died from a “self-inflicted gun shot wound to the right side of the head.” A .357 caliber revolver was found at his feet.
According to the report, his estimated time of death was 11:50 a.m.
According to Capt. Robert Dowd, the victim, a resident of Claremont Avenue, allegedly text messaged his family saying he was going to end his life and was seen checking into the hotel in a very “distraught” state,” said Dowd.
Dowd said he shot himself before his family came to the hotel. He said that his family members discovered him in his hotel room and notified the police around 12:30 p.m. – Tricia Tirella
