Former Bergen Co. Democratic chair convicted

Joseph Ferriero, who served as the chairman of the Bergen County Democratic Party from 1998 to 2008, was convicted in federal court Thursday in a corruption trial.
According to the Associated Press, his trial “focused on his role in a consulting business that solicited contracts in towns where he had political influence.”
Ferriero had a role in creating and running a grant-writing company that did more than $1 million of work for the town of Bergenfield.
He was convicted of a count of conspiracy to defraud the town of Bergenfield, and two mail fraud counts.
According to the AP, he was acquitted on five other counts of mail fraud.
