The Jersey City Reporter thought the 2013 mayoral election in Jersey City was too far ahead to think about when it started working on an article late last month on who would run for the city’s top executive more than three years from now, only to shelve it for various reasons.
But then some residents last week received a “robo-call,” or a phone call with an automated voice, that asks “In light of the recent corruption investigation, if an election was held today for Jersey City mayor, who would you vote for?”
Given were six choices including: Jersey City school board member and police officer Sean Connors, City Councilman Steven Fulop, Mayor Jerramiah Healy, state Senator Sandra Cunningham, and then followed by “Undecided” and “Unknown.” Among the prominent names left out were community activist and past mayoral candidate Dan Levin and former Mayor Bret Schundler.
So who’s behind the phone call?
Downtown Jersey City resident Yvonne Balcer said she got the phone call on Monday and the number that came up on her caller ID had a 202 area code, which is based in Washington D.C. Research of the phone number in question leads to a company called Global Crossing Telemanagement. Then who hired the company and why?
The answer to that question has yet to be answered. – RK
