Dawn Zimmer does what’s best for Hoboken

Dear Editor:
I have lived in Hoboken for over ten years and can’t imagine living anywhere else. I love Hoboken and am proud to be raising my three children here. I strongly believe that Hoboken needs a Mayor that feels the same as I do about our town. A mayor that isn’t looking to use her job as a stepping stone to a more powerful and grandiose political position. A mayor that doesn’t seek office for her own financial or personal gain. A mayor that wants to give people a say in their government, and restore confidence in their elected officials.
Dawn Zimmer is this person. She is honest, fair, cares deeply about Hoboken. Dawn does what is best for the community.
As acting Mayor and President of the City Council, Dawn Zimmer is legally allowed to take two salaries. Did she? Absolutely not. She receives only the mayor’s salary, which she immediately cut by 10 percent, in recognition of Hoboken’s current fiscal crisis.
Dawn also moved quickly to restore the balance of power in our city by placing the appointment of Zoning Board members firmly in the hands of the city council, rather than resting solely with the mayor. She is not interested in consolidating power in the mayor’s office. Balancing power means more transparency and less opportunity for corruption. We can all agree that this is in Hoboken citizens’ best interest.
Dawn Zimmer will fight to put City Hall where it belongs, and where it hasn’t been for a long time, in the hands of the people of this great city. That is why I am voting for her.
