Mason’s anti-Zimmer ads are a lie

Dear Editor:
Seriously, Beth Mason, are you kidding me? The ads on television and in the newspaper attacking Dawn Zimmer because she’s holding two positions (temporarily) are ridiculous! Do you really think the Hoboken voter is that stupid to believe all the misinformation (I should say lies) you are purposely putting out there?? Just so that we all have the real facts – Dawn automatically became mayor when she was sworn in on July 31st (the same day as Peter Cammarrano’s resignation) because she was council president, as called for by N.J. state statute. Beth Mason herself put out a press release at the time explaining this process, and stating that Dawn would indeed become the acting mayor. The Council had 30 calendar days to appoint an interim mayor but no one took action (including Beth) so Dawn remains acting mayor and council president, as set forth by state law. If Dawn Zimmer wins on November 3rd, she would immediately be sworn in as mayor. Someone would be appointed to the 4th ward until a new election takes place in 2010. In total, Dawn would be a “dual office holder” for 3 months and 3 days which is nowhere near the “at least five months” that Beth repeatedly puts in her TV and print ad campaign – that is just a flat-out lie. Beth, I don’t know who is advising you or if you come up with these ideas on your own but you need to make a change. You are running the same kind of campaign you ran the first time around and seriously expecting a different result? I don’t think so. Please don’t underestimate the intelligence of the Hoboken voter. We’re a lot smarter than you think. Hoboken has so many BIGGER issues than Dawn Zimmer (temporarily) holding two positions and it’s time you addressed those issues instead of fabricating ones that don’t exist.
