Dear Editor:
A tip of the hat to all who attended and participated in the “public meeting” held for local residents who wanted to hear more about the affordable housing plan. This proposed plan called for sale of one acre of town-owned land, a small portion of the Shetik Field.
I will not go into the pros and cons of the AHB plan- that is not the object of this letter. The purpose of this letter is to congratulate the mayor and council for calling this meeting. Praise AHB Executive Director Snyder for his impressive presentation. Thank the majority of council members for listening to the remarks of the South End residents before voting on the project. Most important, applaud the residents that spoke out.
I wish the process used Sept, 2009 was used back in (Jan. 1997) when six Secaucus Housing Authority trustees voted to re-name Lincoln Towers. I wonder what the outcome would have been if all Secaucus residents would have had the opportunity to hear the six trustees reasoning and view the arrogance as the process unfolded. The silence of Director William Snyder, and the mayor and council, during that period of time was sickening.
If the Take Back Secaucus Team truly mean what they say, they should revisit the history of the re-naming process used Jan. 1997. Once reviewed, they should use the same process employed on the night of Sept. 2009. Let’s have a do-over. There is always hope when people come together and listen to both sides.
