‘I hope he sticks to his guns’

To the Editor:
Bayonne is definitely going through a rough time now. Not knowing where their next penny is coming from to pay the bills unless they sell property down the base; raising taxes; raising water bill fees; and it is all matter of time before they raise parking meter rates again.
I do not think it is the best interest for Bayonne if Councilman Gary La Pelusa resigns. I am a pretty smart guy. I graduated college and I have a master’s degree. Now I am not bragging, but I read the complaint from the Attorney General’s office, and, as I see it, La Pelusa has not been charged with a crime (in case you haven’t noticed) and that is a good thing. He does not have to and should not resign. He is the only voice the people have up there.
Mr. Lo Re should really apologize to Mr. La Pelusa for his non-action last night. I understand that Mr. Ward said he was speaking on “city business.” Look, everyone knows that is just a cover up for other issues. Mr. Lo Re should have not allowed that or at least he should have allowed Mr. La Pelusa to read a statement or a rebuttal to the false information Mr. Ward gave.
All the other councilmen who sit up there are all just going along with what Steve Gallo and Mayor Smith want because they “have to.” Mr. La Pelusa is a hard working family man who is not being charged with anything. He is not being indicted for anything wrong and I really hope he sticks to his guns and does not resign. He is a decent and good person who really does care about the residents of Bayonne. He is always helping someone or doing something for the community. I believe he will be around for a long time to come.
