According to a Public Service Gas & Electric spokesperson, at around 11 a.m. this morning, a contractor hit a six-inch plastic gas main at 69th Street and Granton Avenue.
She was told that the gas main break caused the initial evacuation of five people, but that they were allowed back into their residences soon after. Two meters were initially out of service and need to be repaired, said the spokesperson.
“The road was initially shut down when the gas was blowing, but then the gas was shut and the area was made safe and the crew is making its repairs,” said the spokesperson.
According to published reports, three four-story buildings had to be evacuated. – Tricia Tirella
