To the Editor:
Shocking is the only way to describe the feelings I have regarding the recent turn of events involving our elected officials: Assemblyman Chiappone and Councilman La Pelusa. Chiappone has been indicted on seven counts of corruption, and La Pelusa has been implicated in the situation.
According to the indictment, La Pelusa gave Chiappone his paycheck when he worked for him as an aide. This opens up a whole host of troubling questions, mostly about why someone would agree to take a job and then give their entire pay back to their boss. I just can’t fathom why this would occur.
At this point, I am thoroughly disgusted with most elected officials. At least in Bayonne, we had been able to avoid having any of our politicians arrested in connection with the recent scandals. Now, thanks to Tony and Gary, that is no longer the case. I hope they both resign and soon.
