State temporarily closes Jersey City street

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the upcoming, three day closure of Saint Paul’s Avenue in Jersey City, Hudson County.
NJDOT will close Saint Paul’s Avenue between Covert Avenue and West Side Avenue in Jersey City this Wednesday, September 23, Thursday, September 24 and Friday, September 25 for steel construction operations on the $200 million Route 1&9 viaduct replacement project over Saint Paul’s Avenue. Local access will be maintained.
Saint Paul’s Avenue will be closed in both directions from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, for all three days, weather permitting. NJDOT will detour Saint Paul’s Avenue east of Route 1&9 to Tonnele Avenue to Newark Avenue to Route 1&9T to Charlotte Avenue, back to Saint Paul’s Avenue. Saint Paul’s Avenue west of Route 1&9 will be detoured on Charlotte Avenue to Route 1&9T to Newark Avenue to Tonnele Avenue, back to Saint Paul’s Avenue.
The detour routes will be adequately signed throughout the project area.
This construction is part of the Route 1&9 viaduct replacement project, which will replace the Route 1&9 viaduct over Saint Paul’s with a new structure on a new alignment north of the present structure and build new approach roads to safely connect to Route 1&9T, Route 7, Route 139, Pulaski Skyway, Route 1&9 north of Tonnele Circle and local streets in Jersey City. NJDOT began construction in November, 2008 and project completion is anticipated in late 2011.
NJDOT will utilize variable messaging signs throughout the area to inform motorists of the roadway closures. Construction information and real-time traffic updates are available at www.nj511.info.
