Two Jersey City officials were expected to plead guilty today in connection to the July 23 corruption arrests that nabbed public officials and religious figures in New Jersey and New York.
Edward Cheatam, a former Jersey City Housing Authority commissioner, was scheduled to appear before U.S. District Judge Jose Linares at noon. After him at 12:30 is Denis Jaslow, an investigator for the Hudson County Board of Elections and an ex-state corrections officer.
Cheatam was indicted last month along with Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini for allegedly promising to help government informant Solomon Dwek get development approvals, in exchange for Dwek’s contributions to a mayoral re-election campaign.
Jaslow is charged with allegedly taking a $2,500 bribe in exchange for introducing Jersey City council candidate Mike Manzo to Dwek, who pretended to want Manzo’s help in getting a zoning change for a luxury condominium building.
