Volunteer First Aid Squad raises nearly $8K through tourney

The Weehawken Volunteer First Aid Squad (WVFAS) will now be able to enjoy some of the new items purchased with the funds raised through the Weehawken Golf Tournament. Their recently purchased ambulance will now be outfitted with new equipment, including a new stretcher.
The event raised nearly $8,000 for the new equipment. Approximately 56 people attended the event, said WVFAS Captain and tournament coordinator Gio Ahmad.

“I’d like to thank Mayor [Richard] Turner and the Township Council for allowing WVFAS to be the beneficiary of the golf outing,” said Ahmad. He also thanked WVFAS President Jeff Welz, 2nd Lt. Numargo Vasquez , 2nd Lt. Rob Hennigar, Councilman Robert Zuconi, and Carnig Neresesian. Ahmad also thanked the following WVFAS volunteers: Michelle Hennigar, Dennis Huergo, Leona Neresesian, Lauren Piech, Joyce Suarez, and Alida Vasquez.
“Numargo was my right-hand guy,” said Ahmad. “He really helped out a lot.”
“I think it’s a wonderful outing to get together with our friends and families to have a really good time other than through a business oriented [activity],” said Vasquez, who noted that the outing was for a good cause.
“The money that it brings in is absolutely helpful,” added Vasquez.
As for the old ambulance, the squad will be retiring the used 11-year-old, 66,000 mile ambulance through the dealer that originally sold the vehicle to the squad. The dealer will put it up for sale in their inventory catalog.
Ahmad said they are asking for $10,000 for it. The lettering decals can be removed so that whoever purchases the ambulance can modify it to their own décor specifications. Anyone who is interested can call the squad at (201) 863-6611.

They’re all winners

Though no one won the $10,000 grand prize for hitting a hole-in-one, the big screen television that was reserved for a second hole-in-one was raffled off to a lucky winner.
Among other prizes during the golf outing were the recipients of trophy awards. The first place team winners included attendees Councilman Bob Zucconi, Loretta Zucconi, Erika Zucconi, and Neil Grieco. Their names will be engraved on the mayor’s trophy. Additionally, they each received an individual trophy.
The closest to the pin trophy went to winner Kevin Hegarty, who was a former Weehawken High School golf team member.
The longest drive trophy for a male competitor went to Dan Paulson and the longest drive trophy female competitor went to Loretta Zucconi.
George Pizzuta Jr. was the winner for the most accurate drive trophy.
Everyone at the tournament received a consolation prize that included golf bags, golf clubs, golf gloves, golf balls, duffle bags and golf towels among other items.
When asked if he would consider being part of another golf outing if there were to be one next year, Vasquez answered “Absolutely! I hope to do this every year from now on.”
