Stuiver appointed to housing board

Hoboken mayoral candidate Beth Mason’s former campaign manager, Jake Stuiver, was appointed to the Hoboken Housing Authority Board at Wednesday night’s council meeting. There is still a seat open on the board, and many people have applied for it.
Commissioner Perry Belfiore has also asked to retain his seat, so far to no avail.
There is still one more seat open on the board, which oversees Hoboken’s 1,300+ units of public housing in the projects. The seven-member board of commissioners is unpaid, and helps the paid executive director and the federal Department of Housing and Urban development oversee the projects.
Stuiver has been involved in community service work in Hoboken for some time. He also lives in the 4th Ward, where most of the projects are located.
There was some controversy at the meeting. Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer has made it clear that she will be soliciting resumes for new posts in her administration. However, two out of her three picks so far to head the HPU, to be her assistant, and now for the housing board were all involved in the campaigns of either her or her former (and potentially still?) rival, Councilwoman Beth Mason.
