To the Editor:
I am very upset about several things going on in and around City Hall. I don’t know if everyone has experienced this, but I must say enough is enough.
When I called to speak to my councilman, I spoke with a young man, very nice and polite, but that is all he can do. He asked me to please hurry up with my message because he was going to lunch. I got so angry I said to forget about it and hung up. When I asked to speak to the secretary, he advised me that he was it temporarily because the secretary retired in June. Now, it hasn’t been that long since I was employed, but what about having the retiring person train someone else who will be taking her place?
I do realize Bayonne is under a hiring freeze (I don’t think the mayor knows it though), but since the mayor is on a spending spree and promoting people to captains, I just figured he would be able to replace the council secretary, even if she has to be trained on the job. You wouldn’t have to pay top dollar, but someone would like that job. There are plenty of people in Bayonne in need of a job.
Speaking of being promoted to captain, it is a farce if you think we believe that by promoting men, the city is saving money. It all catches up on the back end of his salary, because the first year the firemen and police don’t take the salary increase in their pays. It is all a smoke screen.
What has this mayor really done for us lately? Other than get up in front of the council, either threatening to sue the city if he didn’t get his way to fill an empty seat, or alarm the residents of how bad things are, or even going as far as making allegations about someone he had recently fired from the city. It is all words that he is reading off scripted notes. Actions speak louder than words, Mr. Mayor.
