Union Dry Dock in Hoboken to receive $577K in federal funds

Amidst the condos of Hoboken, there is still a bit of industry left – Union Dry Dock on the northern waterfront. They help repair ships.
Now they’re getting more than half a million dollars in federal funds.
According to a press release from Sen. Frank Lautenberg:
“Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today announced that Union Dry Dock & Repair Company of Hoboken will receive $577,902 in federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for welding, lifting and blast and coating equipment to help improve the local and regional shipping industry.
“In these tough economic times, it is vital that we invest in America’s maritime industry so that it is better prepared to meet our nation’s shipping needs,” said Sen. Lautenberg, chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security. “Modernizing our shipyards will create and save jobs, improve harbor operations, and help make our nation’s waterways a more viable and affordable alternative for commercial transportation.”
Union Dry Dock & Repair Company is one of 70 shipyards to receive ARRA funding.
