Stabbed with screwdriver during dog dispute
A man was stabbed in the stomach with a screwdriver last week after arguing with a neighbor about whether the neighbor’s dog had urinated on his door.
On Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7:46, police were dispatched to the 300 block of Washington Street on report of a stabbing.
By the time uniformed officers arrived, the Anti-Vice Squad already had a suspect in custody. The victim, a 47-year-old Hoboken resident, was sitting on a chair in his apartment bleeding from abdomen. Two witnesses were also with him.
The witnesses told police that the two men were engaging in an ongoing argument about whether the suspect’s dog had urinated on the victim’s door earlier in the day.
Police allege that Adolfo Perez, 60, the dog owner, used a screwdriver to stab the victim in stomach. Perez was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.
However, Perez was released without bail after his pacemaker went off at police headquarters. He was taken to Hoboken University Medical Center for examination.
An ambulance took the victim to Jersey City Medical Center; police said he was in stable but guarded condition at the end of last week.
Children locked in cars
Twice over the past week, mothers have accidentally locked kids in their car and police or fire officers had to smash in windows to get the kids out.
The first instance was on Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. when police were dispatched to 68 Harrison St.
A mother accidentally locked her child in the car. When police arrived, the mother was in tears and very nervous, police said.
She told police her child was in the car for seven to 10 minutes with the windows up. Police said it was between 95 to 100 degrees outside.
Police made a call to the local towing company, but when they did not respond quickly enough, police broke in the window and rescued the child.
On Monday, Aug. 24 at 4:24 p.m. another mother locked her child in her car in a garage on 14th Street.
The Fire Department responded to the call. After unsuccessful trying to unlock the door with a car tool, they also smashed window and removed child.
Both children were checked by the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corp and were injury-free.

Police determined that Lopez is a fugitive from justice on charges in South Orange County, Fla.
Lopez was transported to the Hudson County correctional facility and now awaits an extradition flight to Florida to face charges there.
